Brown Howe and The Black Bull Inn & Hotel, Coniston

Walk seconds beyond the edge of the car park and greet the most mystical view. It's the best thing when scenery shocks out of nowhere. It felt like when Narnia is found through the back of the wardrobe.

All of the rumours are true. A soft and easy wade in making confident strides possible, and a gentle depth. Safe and clear for a long while. One other pair of swimmers and the odd passing canoe or paddleboard. They appear from nowhere and disappear fast.

It was simple and beautiful. Misty too.

I got the horrific looking socks. I wore them today for the first time. I will never look back (or down) again.

We drove along into the village and into The Black Bull Inn. Really cosy place - no wall space spared. Nothing beats an open fire after a cold swim either. I got chatting to the new landlord about brandy and he found an old bottle of cherry behind the rum.  As brandy is an aperitif there was no option but to follow on with a Sunday Roast. The cauliflower cheese was something else.

Another perfect Sunday.
